How To Draw Indominus Rex from Jurassic World-easy things to draw

In this drawing, I go over how to draw the main bad guy from Jurassic World. The Indominus Rex.  I try and go through it step by step. I try to put my thought on the drawing down into words. Check out the Video!

Hey guys, welcome to another tutorial of easy things to draw, today I'm going to teach you how to draw an Indominus Rex from Jurassic world. I like to start with the basics, I imagine the Indominus Rex as a complete form and then it's broken into smaller shapes, it's something to do with the gestures first and then the shapes, for the head, for example, I think in a form similar to a Pacman…

If you think what you want to draw in simple forms it will be ten times easier for you to draw it, just break whatever you want into simple shapes, after that I put another layer of paper on top of what I've already drawn, I already have my frame underneath so I don't have to think about that anymore, so I start with the small details, the first thing I think about is the details of the mouth…

Which is similar to a T-Rex or a Raptor mouth, because the Indominus Rex is a combination of several different dinosaurs, and to me it looks like a giant Raptor mixed with a T-Rex.

I'm also thinking prostitution in the skin you know and a little bit on the landmarks, I already have a previous video where I explain in detail how to draw a dinosaur so if you haven't seen it or need refreshment, please go see it. I pass through the body and torso one thing about dinosaurs is that they tend to stand with one leg, as if they were running, also your rib cage and pelvis are really close together.

Then I move to another layer of paper, in this layer, I start to add the smallest details, I did this already with a pencil and currently, I start to throw ink since this will be my final product. So I start with the ink, for this, I'm using a Micron Pigma…

I start slowly putting in the details, I haven't started with a small one I do that because I want to be wispy and I like to nail those details first, at this stage is when I do the details because, with everything else you go to the least detailed to the most, this it's like the reverse  of what you get used to doing.

First, I start with the mouth and teeth, I think of the shape of the mouth, usually tends to spread forward like a snout, but it also has an opening so you're gonna have to really imagine that in your mind's eye, you know they have that way of pulling forward opening up, doing this will help you with the work on the back, because you can see the front, but the back is hidden and you need to know where to pull those lines too, so is necessary to you, know what the other side of the mouth look likes…

Then I go to his arms, the arms of this dinosaur are pretty much like human's arms, I just had to change them a little bit, then I keep going down to the nails and there's nothing crazy about them. I have to try too hard to make the torso of my dinosaur don't look like a human torso because I have the habit of drawing things quite similar to humans, this is what I draw the most and what I have in my head like all the time, you have to think of them as animals because that's what they are…

Then we go to the feet and we have to make sure that these are very planted, because wherever they are staying it really shows the grounds of the entire character, then you have to make sure that it's level with the ground and it makes sense if it doesn't it might throw off the whole drawing , this thing would be going falling or something.

Now we have some perspective on this part because the head of Indominux Rex is closer to us than the tail, is like was backing up and also has a minor overlap with the pelvis, the pelvis overpasses the tail, I talk about this more detail in the video on how to draw dinosaurs, then I draw some small spines because the Indominus Rex has a ton of them in the back, but it's something I want to leave for the end because I feel they are a bit intimidating for me to handle since I have to draw them individually to create a form and there are too many of them.

Now I'm starting to add more shadows to my dinosaur and I'm blocking the shadows, doing this is more of a Comic-book, if you are inking the dark or in other words inking everything within the shadows is quite like pitch-black and this, as I said before, is very Comic-book, also doing this is very attractive and is just a different drawing style.

I continue with the torso and I try to add some whites lines to show that his torso is in front of his legs and it doesn't look like one mass. When you're in this phase, it's quite tempting to shadow everything in black, so I need to have enough control on my own to not do it because once you do shadow, you can't go back to the way it was before, I know you can also use white to correct the mistakes..

but it's also good to learn how to control yourself and know when is enough. Then I go down to the knee and I want to construct that a little more, so I add more shadows and black spaces because they add weight to my dinosaur and also create a kind of balance to my drawing.

  • To conclude, I add more details and shadows on the face, I also think that the spines of the Indominus Rex are the most remarkable thing, although I know that it has other qualities in the movie. So I keep adding details to the spines because some of them have their own shape and I really want that they look like they belong to the skin a thing that also helps is to think about them in 3D.
  • The Indominus Rex has to look bad, so I give that look of anger, and I also add those devil horns on the forehead, to finish I add Contour to the whole drawing, since I think this detail makes it look more attractive, and that's it, we've already completed our tutorial, I hope you've been helpful and remember that I'll upload more tutorials of easy things to draw where I'll show you how to draw step by step, everyone is welcome to see these tutorials, whether they're, beginners drawings or for more experienced ones, see you later in another tutorial, goodbye.
